okay don't laugh man
i dont think words can truly articulate what this game ultimately means to me.
not for the game itself, god no, but for the memories its provided me with over the years.
i originally experienced this game via the demo on xbla marketplace on my brother's old jasper xbox 360, and i mostly just piddled about doing not much of anything in that demo, but it stuck with me. the theme of this game haunted me for years, because i could never remember what game it was actually from.
fast forward a few years, and a friend of mine brings up this game in passing, saying that he owned it on ps2, and we both discover that it has not only a pc port, but bafflingly, a steam release of said pc port. we find this rather humorous, and he proceeds to buy it. we had an uproarious night of fun, taking the piss out of the game, dogging on it, glitch hunting, and just both re-experiencing this fractured piece of our childhoods together.
forward a few more years, to this very year, the space year of 2023. i have convinced another dear friend of mine to attempt to play cars, entirely on a whim due to the unavailability of another game he wanted to play at the time. what ensued was a four-day streak of utter chaos and madness, wherein the game refused to co-operate with everything he attempted to do, from basic controls, to sound settings, to graphical oddities, glitches, poorly explained mechanics, awful minigames, the whole gamut of just absolutely mediocre licensed game trappings from the 2000s. and in spite of that, or arguably because of it, we had a fucking blast. we were screaming in call, going nuts over how much the game sucked, over how execrable many of the choices were, turning down every sound setting except for the dialogue to make sure we got the richest owen wilson experience possible.
this game has given me many a lovely memory, and for that, i can't help but be positively skewed towards it. objectivity has never been my strong suit, and this is no exception.
disney pixar's cars is a godawful video game and i love it.
