killing floor - 7/10
genuine soul that'll have you proper clamming for a chippy how
where did we go so wrong for the first game to be so entirely head-and-shoulders above the rest of the franchise, and it's not even a remotely close fight?
killing floor is everything i want. a tense horror-shooter where ammo management can become critical rather quickly and can breed moments of complete and utter panic of the highest magnitude, but likewise, is not afraid to take the mickey a bit with constant aggressive cockney yelling coming down your headphones. a masterful balance between the gritty, grimey horror and the more comedic elements, in a balancing act of tones that i could compare to resident evil 4. what that game does for horror in continental europe, this game does for horror in london. so it feels like a day in london.
although left 4 dead is still better and likely cheaper seeing as it goes on sale every time somebody blinks, i still prefer the kinda shitty eurojank appeal of how ramshackle this game feels. it may not have the complexities or the true refined quality of l4d, but it makes up for that in the sheer personality that oozes from this game. i love it.
this is the only game in this series that's worth your time - and perhaps more importantly, the only one that'll actually bloody fit with more than like two other games on most pre-built/laptop hard drives, so get this, get your friends, and have yourself a fun time with the british zombie shooter of a lifetime. simplicity trumps whatever other bollocks the other games wanted to do any day.
