risk of rain 2

risk of rain 2 - 9/10

do it again, but good and 3D this time

risk of rain 2 poses the question "what if we took the worldbuilding of risk of rain, and put it in an actual video game intended for play rather than cia torture?" the answer being that i would play the shit out of it for around 120 hours and counting. this game itself has had its tumultuous history, from humble yet great beginnings, to the gearbox acquisition making me have cold sweats, to seekers of the storm making me lose all hope and stop playing for a year, only for this most recent (as of writing) dlc, alloyed collective, to completely suck me back in with what may be the best additional content this game has received to date.

i still have my gripes; i wish that i didnt have to mod it for the simple feature of knowing what the fuck an item does any time before i pick it up, some stages are far too open for their own good meaning that some characters have a really rough time of traversal, and some characters unlocks are a bit... wildly egregiously hair-tearingly tall asks. but, those are frankly drops in the bucket, and them aside, this is by far the best rougelike on the market for my money, and one that i greatly enjoy and will likely continue to for hours abound. truly wonderful and i can only hope that this newfound rebirth of quality continues!
